West Somerset Jurassic Coast (30mins)
For those who love rock pooling and fossil hunting look no further than Kilve. Unchanged by time, this coast is one of my favourite places. The walk along the cliffs from East Quantoxhead to Kilve is unmissable and will be a day to treasure.

South Coast (1 hour)
If you want to go further afield, head to Lyme Regis, beautiful ancient harbour and good beaches.

Another special place is Beer on the East Devon coast, where fishing boats are winched up onto the pebbly beach as they have done for centuries. On a Monday afternoon Beer Sailing Club go out in their traditional wooden sailing boats, Beer Luggers. Go early in the morning and have breakfast on the beach from one of the beach cafes.

Nature Reserves

Clavelshay Barn is within a 30 minute drive of two major wetland reserves, WWT Steart Marshes and RSPB Avalon Marshes. Both perfect at any time of the year.

Steart attracts many wading birds at low tide and Avalon Marshes is famous for the murmurations of starlings in the winter months (generally November to March). Spectacular to see at both sunrise and sunset and never forgotten.
